I want to be a Volunteer AYSO Referee

Hello, and thank you for considering Volunteering to become an AYSO Referee for Region 9!
How to Volunteer as a Referee:
https://www.ayso9.org/Default.aspx?tabid=866537
Special Notes:
If you are a youth, under 18, choose "Youth Referee." If you are an adult, over 18, choose "Referee." Youth Referee is NOT for adults who will be refereeing youths. I see the ambiguity, so, yes, I have to explain it. Yes, people choose incorrectly and have to go through the process all over again.
If you are the Lead SportsConnect account for your family -- i.e., your name is the one we see that registers the children and pays the registration fee -- you can use that account to volunteer as a Referee. If you are NOT the lead account, you must create your own SportsConnect account with its own separate e-mail address in order to volunteer.
If you are volunteering as a Team Referee for a Core Team so that your child's Team will have a Team Referee, choose the Division of your Child's team.
If you are volunteering as a Team Referee for a United Team so that your United Team can earn Team Referee Points, choose a 6U, 16U or 19U Division, so you are not accidentally placed as a Team Referee during team formation. Those Divisions do not have or do not use our Group of Referees.
If you are volunteering just to Referee because it is a great way to help your community's kids, choose a 6U, 16U or 19U Division, so you are not accidentally placed as a Team Referee during team formation. YES, THIS HAPPENS, EVERY YEAR!
Included in your first-time Volunteering will be a request for a background check. You must submit a background check in order to be a Volunteer Referee. "Sterling" will send your e-mail a notification asking you to click the link. Check your junk e-mail for this if necessary. Click the link and complete the background check info. NOTE: Youths do not have to do this.
After that, there is more. Since you will be working closely with children, State Law and USSF and AYSO want you to learn about Safety.
So, here is everything you need to do and how, AFTER you register as a Volunteer:
Three AYSOU Safety Courses:
1. Log on to the AYSO9 website
2. Click "Account" in the upper right hand corner where the silhouette is.
3. Click "Volunteer" on the left menu.
4. Your list of completions should pop up on the screen (use a PC for this, not your phone, if possible, as everything I'm typing assumes a PC).
5. Click the AYSOU button.
6. Wait patiently for AYSOU to automatically log you in.
7. There are several Safety Courses you must also complete.
8. Click "Training Library."
9. In the "Safe Haven" box, click "View Courses" button.
10. You need to take three courses here: "Safe Haven," "CDC Concussion Awareness," and "Simon's Heart - Sudden Cardiac Arrest."
11. When you're done, save the completion certificates as a PDF, just in case they don't get noted on your "Volunteer" page.
For SafeSport Safety Course only for Adults: Special Instructions
1. Log on to the AYSO9 website
2. Click "Account" in the upper right hand corner where the silhouette is.
3. Click "Volunteer" on the left menu.
4. Click the little box to the left of "SafeSport."
5. Click Renew & Update box in the lower right-hand corner.
6. A pop-up box will appear.
7. Click "here" in the second line. This will take you to SafeSport.
8. To create an account, USE THE SAME E-MAIL address as your AYSO Account!
9. Take the SafeSport Course. You must complete it in one sitting, else you'll have to start over.
10. At completion, your completion should transfer to SportsConnect in a day or two.
11. At completion, download the Completion Certificate to yourself, in case your data do not transfer.

For Referee Courses, 10U and up, at Region 9:
Note that to become certified as an AYSO Referee, you must take BOTH the Regional Online Portion AND the Companion Portion of the Regional Referee Online + Companion Course. No, the Annual Region 9 Meeting is NOT either of these.

16. Click the "Start" button in the "Regional Referee" box.
17. Take the course, and take the exam at the end.
18. Save the Certificate as a pdf, just in case of data issues.
19. Show up on the date and time (check the location) that you registered for the Comapnion (Field) Course.
For U7/U8 Referees:
Do not attend the scheduled Regional Referere Companion Course. U7U8 is very different, and requires a separate Companion Course, shorter but much more relevant to U7U8.

3. Click "Volunteer" on the left menu.

11. Take the course, and the exam at the end.
12. Save the Certificate as a pdf, just in case of data issues.
13. E-mail me that you have completed the course, so we can schedule a "Companion" (Field) Session.

5. Click the AYSOU button.
6. Wait patiently for AYSOU to automatically log you in.
7. Click Training Event on the left menu.
8. Click the "X" next to Region 9 in the "Regions" box at the top. This will unfilter the search.
9. Click the "target" in the Location box at the top, which should fill in your actual location, or type in "Thousand Oaks" in the input bar, then expand the radius to 25km or 50km.
